Metro Arts Announces 15 Community Arts Grants
"Arts Build Communities" Grants Support Programs that Broaden Access to Arts
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission (Metro Arts) at their September board meeting today approved $29,376 to 15 nonprofit organizations as part of the Tennessee Arts Commission’s Arts Build Communities (ABC) program.
Funded by the Tennessee General Assembly, ABC is administered in cooperation with the Tennessee Arts Commission and designated agencies throughout Tennessee. Metro Arts administers ABC awards ranging from $500 to $2500 that foster community-focused arts projects in Davidson County.
These grants will support a variety of projects, including The Porch Writers' Collective's creative writing program for immigrants and refugees, and first-time ABC awardee Gilda's Club's Free Expressive Art Program for those touched by cancer. The Nashville Youth Jazz Ensemble and Corner to Corner were also first-time ABC grant recipients.
The nonprofit arts and culture industry generates $429.3 million in annual economic activity in Davidson County, supports 14,277 full-time equivalent jobs and generates $51.1 million in local and state government revenues, according to the 2017 Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 national economic impact study.
