Whistle, Two, Ready! is an interactive artwork created by award-winning artist collective, Daily Tous Les Jours. It is comprised of 5 musical bollards that project music and lights. When activated by those passing by, each of the bollard sensors capture and send speed and pace data of the interacting pedestrians as they walk through the artwork. The artwork’s central computer then calculates each individual interaction and produces one cohesive music melody by mixing the musical tracks in its data base.
The inspiration behind the artwork is the beauty of Mill Ridge Park, the community, and Cane Ridge High School’s Rhythmic Marching Band. The artwork is built of 5 custom steel traffic bollards that contain laser sensors, led lights, and performance speakers. Each bollard stands 4” tall and its green and blue colors represent the location’s green hills and blue sky.
To produce the artwork’s distinctive sounds, Daily Tous Les Jours collaborated with the students of the high school band by recording various instruments and melodies. The band students’ contribution was so significant that Daily Tour Les Jours titled the artwork after the marching band’s call to attention, “Whistle, Two, Ready!” The students also learned the technical aspects of the artwork and how their music was incorporated into the piece.
The project provided for a mentorship opportunity and local artist Robbie Lynn Hunsinger assisted Daily Tous Les Jours with community engagement and technical feedback.
